why major league baseball could use an all-star skills competition…
a chance to showcase the true fundamentals of baseball by the best players (not just the long ball), inclusion of other players that perhaps are not selected as all-stars, but have outstanding individual skills and of course, it’s can’t just be about the fans and players - the league will benefit from increased event, sponsorship and network revenue
the events:
outfield assists - outfielders shag a variety of pop ups, flyballs and line drives then are required to make accurate throws to respective bases
1st to 3rd - players are clocked on their baserunning time from 1st base to 3rd base
infield range - infielders are peppered with a variety of ground balls and line drives then are required to make accurate throws to respective bases
caught stealing - catchers are timed on their catch and release throws to respective bases
