corey patterson, toronto blue jays2011 mlb regular season (blue jays v. white sox)
after a 5 for 7 afternoon, including a walk-off game winning home run, there’s no denying that there has to be something in the water up there in toronto.
players that have been journeymen, utility players and/or have had their former teams give up on them find a home in toronto and produce…just a few in recent seasons: marco scutaro, scott downs, yunel escobar, brandon morrow and most notably - jose bautista

dirk nowitzki, dallas mavericks2010-11 nba playoffs (thunder v. mavericks)
12 for 15 from the field and 24 for 24 from the line…those stat lines might not sound that impressive if your name is shaquille o’neal or dwight howard and buckets consist of dunks and lay-ins (minus the free throws, of course).
this man actually “shot” the ball…game 1 to the mavs

jose bautista, toronto blue jays

hit the pitches you’re meant to hit and lay off the ones you aren’t…
as simple as that approach is, it takes incredible patience, ability and focus to do.

that being said, most outside of toronto are unaware that he’s a true five tool player - hits for average, hits for power, runs the bases well, has a rocket for an arm and has great range in the infield and outfield.  oh, by the way, he’s also great in the clubhouse.

jose bautista - putting toronto back on the map one swing at a time…
(2 mins in, check ivan nova brushing him back and then jose taking it out with the bat flip)

2011 mlb regular season (blue jays v. yankees)

we agree that frustration is no excuse for equipment abuse, but if ever it was worth it…
this is it…glorious and with venom (travis knows bo)

bat: i’m sorry
travis’ knee: !!@$! (as the bat snaps in half and is thrown to the ground)

“The problem is I know it’s sometimes not easy to give the penalty in the last minute and you need to have personality, courage and character. Not always do referees have these kind of skills.

- Carlos Ancelotti, Manager of English Premier League side, Chelsea, in reference to a critical penalty kick non-call that occurred at the end of the first leg of their UEFA Champions League tie with Manchester United

Backstory: Sir Alex Ferguson, Manager of Manchester United received a 5-game touchline ban for broadly inferring that the referee for his side’s early EPL game in the month vs. Chelsea was not “fair” or “strong”

“I’d like to see how smart Theo Epstein is with the Tampa Bay Rays payroll. You got Carl Crawford ‘cause you paid more than anyone else, and that’s what makes you smarter? That’s why I like whipping their butt. It’s great, knowing those guys with the $205 million payroll are saying, ‘How the hell are they beating us?’

- Buck Showalter, Manager of the Baltimore Orioles mocking the notion that Theo Epstein’s (Boston Red Sox General Manager) biggest offseason acquisitions - namely, left fielder Carl Crawford and first baseman Adrian Gonzalez - were indicative of the Red Sox GM’s savvy.

2010-11 nba regular season (suns v. lakers)

phoenix hasn’t had much to cheer about this year,
but with the “polish hammer”…at least there is something to write about.

in all honesty, we didn’t know that marcin got down like that and fortunately for ron artest, he got out of there just in time…enjoy.

“How do we explain it? We can’t. This isn’t rock bottom for us. Crazy thing is, we could lose every game and still make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.

- LeBron James, Miami Heat responding to his team’s poor performance and losing streak
(apparently, he signed with the heat, JUST to MAKE the playoffs, oh….we get it…)
